Bulk Transport, Storage and distribution of Liquid Nitrogen:
An amount of Rs. 75.00 lakhs was approved for bulk transport, storage and distribution of LN during 2002-03. The details of expenditure incurred are,
|S. No.||Equipment purchased||As per the original sanction by GOI||Number of items purchased||Actual Cost|
|1.||Vertical storage cryo station of 10,000 lit for FSBS, Cuttack||1125000.00||1||1575000.00|
|2.||TA 55 containers||27||525000.00|
|3.||Vertical storage cryo station of 3,000 liters for semen bank Bhabanipatana.||960000.00||1||1325000.00|
|4.||Vertical storage cryo station of 6,000 lit for semen bank Balasore||1125000.00||1||1575000.00|

INSTALLATION OF VERTICAL STORAGE CRYO CONTAINERS
Presently, semen and liquid nitrogen in each district is supplied from CDVO of the district. In fact, it is planned to install vertical LN storage stations in the strategic locations.
At present 4 nos cryo stations are at the following places.
|Location||Cryostation capacity in liters|
|Bhavanipatna, Kalahandi districts||3000|
|Chiplima, Sambalpur district||6000|
a. Establishment of vertical storage cryo containers.
To ensure proper supply of LN it is essential to establish LN bulk storage containers of capacities ranging from 3000 to 10000 liters at strategic points. Already 4 such containers were installed in the state with the funds released under Restructuring of Breeding Operation, another 9 bulk containers are need to be established for uninterrupted supply of LN..
At present 4 LN vertical storage containers are located at the following stations:
- Bhvanipatna, Kalahandi 3000 lit capacity
- Cuttack 10000 lit capacity
- Balasore 6000 lit capacity
- Chiplima, Sambalpur dist. 6000 lit capacity
It is proposed to install 7 more containers at the following strategic places for convenient storage of LN and distribution during the year 2005-06 and another 2 during the year 2006-07
|S. No.||Place of location||Districts which can share||Capacity (liters)|
|1.||Koraput||Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangpur and Rayagada||6000|
|2.||Bolangir||Bolangir, Boudh, Sonepur||6000|
|3.||Ganjam||Gajapati, Ganjam, Phulbani||6000|
|7||Bhubaneswar||Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh||6000|
To establish these bulk containers an amount of Rs. 198.00 lakhs is required.
b. Purchase of LN Transport Tanker of 10000 litre capacity.
Presently 3 bulk transport tankers are available, two 6000 lit capacity are being used for procuring LN from Visakhapatnam and 3000 lit tanker for internal distribution. Presently, there is only one industrial source for procuring LN. As the distance is more for each trip vehicle has to travel a minimum of 980 Km and a maximum of 1580 Kms for every trip. To meet the demand of LN one more road tanker of 10000 lit capacity is very essential. It is proposed to purchase one road tanker with 10000 lit capacity which approximately costs Rs. 40.00 lakhs along with chassis.
c. Purchase of LN Transport Vehicle for inter district distribution:-
Presently, distribution of LN and FS is being done utilising hire transport vehicle on contract basis and some times utilising the jeep available with CDVO. The interior road conditions are very bad and the expansion of AI activity is proposed to be taken up in interior villages. For prompt supply of LN and FS to all the centers in time one transport vehicle at each district head quarter is very essential. Privatisation of LN and FS supply will be taken up after establishing total AI centers and after strengthening the availability of LN containers in each rout. There are 2185 AI centers and different sizes of containers are available in different centers. Due to this the streamlining of LN supply route wise is becoming very difficult. All the containers will be rearranged after procuring 35 lit containers which may take another two years. Hence, it is proposed to purchase one transport vehicle for every district, which can also be used as a publicity vehicle.
For proper monitoring and distribution of breeding inputs and to assess the performance of AI centers, 30 District authorities (CDVO) are to be provided with one transport vehicle for distribution of semen and liquid nitrogen, which can be done in a phased manner till the end of the project period. Each district requires an amount of Rs. 5.00 lakhs for purchase of a distribution vehicle.
